A large sediment plume can be seen flowing down the western edge of Lagoa dos Patos and out to sea through the inlet by Rio Grande in southernmost Brazil. Phytoplankton blooms seen offshore my be partly supported by nutrients contained in the turbid runoff. Also visible in this SeaWiFS image are Lagoa Mirim, Lagoa Mangueira, and Laguna Negra (in Uruguay).
Mozambique's flooded Limpopo River (light brown above and left of the center of this SeaWiFS image) seems to be feeding a large phytoplankton bloom offshore in the Indian Ocean.
