Alkaline; Calcium Carbonate; Carbonates; Chemical Precipitation; Erosion; Erosional Features; Erosional Surfaces; Evaporation; Evaporites; Halite; Lake; Landscape; Minerals; Pond; Reservoirs; Saline; Salt; Sand Tufa; Sedimentary Structures; Surface Water; TufaCalcium carbonate precipitated in the sand on the bottom of this alkaline lake when fresh water bubbled up into the sand and interacted with the lake water. The 'sand tufa' was exposed after the lake level dropped and the surrounding sand was eroded. Sierra Nevada in the background.
