Laguna Diversion dam is located on the Colorado River 13 miles northeast of Yuma, Arizona, and about 5 miles downstream from Imperial Dam. The original purpose of this dam was to divert Colorado River water to the project area. Since 1948, irrigation water for the project has been diverted at Imperial Dam. Laguna Dam now serves as a regulating structure for sluicing flows and for downstream toe protection for Imperial Dam.
Water spews forth from the Glen Canyon Dam after fulfilling its hydroelectric function. The dam, one of the largest concrete dams in the world, impounds Lake Powell.
