Bonnie A. McGregor

Dr. McGregor is the Associate Director for Programs of the U.S. Geological Survey. Her educational background includes a B.S. in geology from Tufts University, an M.S. in oceanography from the University of Rhode Island, and a Ph.D. in marine geology and geophysics from the University of Miami, Florida.

Dr. McGregor served as Acting Associate Director of the U.S. Geological Survey from August 1993 to July 1994. From 1992 to August 1993, she served as Assistant Chief Geologist for Program. From 1989 to 1992, she was Associate Chief for Marine Programs in the Office of Energy and Marine Geology. Dr. McGregor has served as chief of a multidisciplinary interagency program quantifying sea-floor processes and morphology and also served as program coordinator for the USGS Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Mappin g Program using state-of-the-art sonar technology. This EEZ mapping was an international cooperative program with Great Britain. Prior to joining the USGS, her employment experience has included working as an oceanographer for the National Oceanic and Atm ospheric Administration, and as a research associate at the University of Miami, at Texas A & M University, and at the University of Rhode Island. She has authored or co-authored over 100 papers and abstracts that have been published in professional j ournals and books. Her research interests have included the processes occurring at actively spreading mid-ocean ridge crests and related hydrothermal mineral deposits; sedimentation patterns on abyssal plains; the geohazards related to sediment failure on submarine slopes; and the transport pathways and depositional or erosional processes responsible for shaping the continental margin and adjacent sea floor.

Dr. McGregor and her husband, Rear Admiral William Stubblefield, reside in Montgomery County, Maryland.
